性狀：白色結晶。溶于熱水和熱堿液，微溶于冷水和熱乙醇。25℃時在水中溶解度約為0.6%，在乙醇中溶解度為0.1%，在二甲基甲酰胺中為2.4%。其鈉、鉀和銨鹽及有機磷鹽類易溶于水。毒性：低毒，半數致死量（大鼠，經口）3800-6800mg/kg
用途：生化研究。選擇性除草劑和暫時性植物生長抑制劑。可通過葉面角質層進入植株，降低光合作用、滲透壓和蒸發作用，能強烈地抑制芽的生長。用于防止土豆、洋蔥、大蒜和蘿卜貯藏期發芽，并有抑制作物生和延長開花的作用，也可用于非耕地除草。
