白紋伊蚊病的蚊子——瘧蚊。
流行性乙型腦炎（這是一種由濾過性病毒引起的急性傳染病），也是由蚊子傳帶的，這種病又叫日本乙型腦炎，普通都把它叫做大腦炎。患者有發燒、頭疼、嘔吐，抽風、昏睡、昏迷等現象。治療上沒有*藥品，所以病死率相當高。
蚊子咬吸了含有本病毒的人或動物的血液后，經過一個相當時期就具有了感染性，再叮咬沒有免疫力的人時可以使被咬者發病。傳染這種病的蚊子叫庫蚊和伊蚊。防治本病的發生與流行除注射疫苗、防治傳染外，必須大力進行滅蚊，消滅傳播者。此外，庫蚊和按蚊還傳播絲蟲病（象皮腫）。
科學家們從很早以前就發現二氧化碳對蚊子有很強的吸引作用，但是，僅僅是二氧化碳還不能說明全部問題，因為事實表明畢竟蚊子更愛叮咬人們的手臂和腿腳。因此，二氧化碳的作用固然不可忽視，但是皮膚肯定還釋放了其他對蚊子更充滿誘惑力的物質。

叮咬目標

一是汗腺發達、體溫較高的人。
